A small UK shop that only sells wooden toys.
Sovendra is an online toy shop based in the United Kingdom. We stock 48 wooden toys for children roughly one to six years old, and nothing else.
We're not a marketplace and we're not a general toy shop. Every item here was chosen one at a time, which is why the catalogue is small and why it stays small.
Why only wood
A wooden toy doesn't do very much on its own. It doesn't light up, count down, or congratulate anyone. That sounds like a shortcoming until you watch a two-year-old with a set of blocks — because the toy isn't doing the work, the child is.
Wood also survives being a toy. It gets dropped down stairs, chewed, left in the garden, and handed to a younger sibling three years later. The dents stay, the grain shows through the paint, and it still works. Most plastic in the same position is in a bin by the second birthday.
That's the whole reason this shop exists. It's a narrow idea, but we'd rather do one thing properly.
How we choose
Three questions before anything gets listed
We turn down far more than we stock. These are the three things a toy has to clear.
Will it last?
Solid construction, sensible joints, finishes that survive a wipe-down. If it looks like it will loosen within a year, we pass.
Is the paperwork right?
Toys sold in the UK have to meet legal safety requirements. If a supplier can't produce the documentation for an item, we don't list it — however well it sells elsewhere.
Does it get played with twice?
Plenty of toys photograph beautifully and get abandoned in a week. We're looking for the ones a child goes back to without being prompted.
How we work
We're an online shop, so there's no showroom to visit. Orders are packed and dispatched from the United Kingdom, which means no customs charges and no month-long waits for a parcel from overseas.
Prices are in pounds and include VAT where it applies. What you see on the product page is what you pay at checkout — we don't add fees at the last step.
When you email us, a person reads it. There's no ticket queue and no chatbot, which is one of the genuine advantages of being small.
